Chapter Six
Finn followed Elvis out into the warm evening. It was barely sunset and already people were out socializing after dinner, or maybe they’d never even gone inside. He’d barely choked down the sandwich Elvis made for him, his stomach jittery with both nerves and anticipation. This was the tricky part. There was no way he’d be trusted enough to meet Boss unless he did a few nights of tricks first.
Michael had promised him they’d try to make sure he didn’t have to go through with actually having sex with anyone, although he’d been vague on exactly how he’d keep that promise. Bottom line was, Finn was prepared to do whatever he had to. Now that he’d seen for himself the boys at risk and the life they were being forced to live, he was more determined than ever to bring this ring down.
He hefted his backpack more securely on his shoulder. All it held was what Elvis had given him for the night—condoms, lube, mouthwash, and a bottle of water. His trick bag, the boy had called it. Funny how the very things he carried while out bar hopping in college took on a sordid aspect when being used to prostitute himself. The only difference was the money, and that was plenty difference enough. Couple it with the fact that Elvis and Rizzo and everyone else involved with this ring thought he was a fifteen year old boy, and it became stomach-turning.
“Where’re we headed?” he asked as they walked in the direction of the subway.
“Don’t worry. There’s a place we can go where men who like pretty boys hang out.”
“You mean like a street corner?”
Elvis giggled. “Pretty much. It’s near a nightclub.”
“So, what? Am I supposed to let them fuck me in an alley?” Finn knew the answer to his question already. Michael had told him that according to the boys they rescued, the ring used seedy hotels for a lot of their business.
“Naw, nothing like that.” Elvis swung his arm around Finn’s shoulders and kept it there as they walked. On the surface, it felt like a comforting gesture. It also held him to the other boy’s side. If Finn had been inclined to run, he’d have to fight Elvis off.
“Don’t worry about a thing, man. We’ve got you covered. I’ll show you a place to take him before we get to the club. Once a guy makes it clear he’s interested in partying with you, you lead him there. Easy, private, and comfortable.”
Finn stayed quiet for a while, his eyes scanning his surroundings constantly as undetectably as possible. His step hitched a millisecond when he spotted a familiar figure. Michael’s partner, Washington, ambled in the same direction as they did on the sidewalk across the street. Where had he come from? Didn’t matter. Obviously, Michael and Ronan had found a base of operations in the neighborhood, although why the pneumonia plagued cop was with them was a mystery. Except dressed as he was in ratty clothes, wiping his nose on his sleeve, he fit in with many of the other guys hanging around.
